Lunar Imaging
High-resolution observations of the Moon using short exposures or lucky imaging.
Astronomy, astrophotography, observational projects, astronomical imaging and scientific software by Hossein Zarei Oshtolagh.
My interests span observational astronomy, astrophotography, astronomical image processing, telescope and camera instrumentation and computational methods for astronomical imaging.
My academic background began in physics and astronomy, including work at Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic). I currently work primarily in computational microscopy and imaging, while continuing my interest in observational and computational astronomy in Jena, Germany.
I am particularly interested in problems where optics, image formation, numerical methods and scientific computing meet.
Selected astronomical observations and imaging projects, including high-resolution lunar imaging, solar observations and deep-sky astrophotography.
High-resolution observations of the Moon using short exposures or lucky imaging.
Observations of the Sun, including high-resolution imaging of solar structure and H-alpha observations.
Imaging deep-sky objects.
Software and computational experiments for extracting, reconstructing and interpreting astronomical information from images.
A Julia package for astronomical plate solving, identifying sky coordinates and image geometry from detected stellar sources.
High-resolution reconstruction from short-exposure image sequences through frame selection, registration and computational combination.
Computational analysis of short-exposure stellar observations using Fourier-domain methods for investigating high-resolution stellar structure.
Experimental work toward measuring atmospheric seeing through differential stellar image motion.
High-performance source detection and extraction software for astronomical and microscopy images, including GPU support.
I am a member of the Volkssternwarte Urania Jena e.V. in Jena, Germany.
Through the observatory, I continue my involvement in observational astronomy and astronomical imaging alongside my scientific work in computational imaging and microscopy.
